Why a newsletter?
Studying in Canada offers a wealth of opportunities to students from around the world. Canada Study News brings the issues and opportunities facing international students in Canada into focus.
More than 350,000 international students study in Canada annually, and this number is increasing — 2015 saw a growth of eight percent in the number of international students in Canada, compared to 2014. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) also issued 5.4 percent more study permits in 2015 than in 2014.
Prospective students around the world are choosing Canada for the quality of its educational programs and institutions, as well as its high standard of living and plentiful opportunities to work while studying, and after graduation. A Canadian diploma, certificate, or degree is recognized worldwide as a solid foundation for a fulfilling career.
In addition, Canadian provinces and territories offer many options for international graduates to immigrate permanently after completing their studies at a Canadian college or university. Over the past year, the government has been vocal in its support for international graduates, who it sees as a top source of new Canadians. Minister of Immigration, John McCallum, and other stakeholders recognize that international graduates are highly educated, and many have already built lives and careers in their communities by the time they graduate. Correspondingly, immigration options for international graduates from Canadian institutions continued to flourish in 2016 — read our Year in Review article for a detailed recap of the key events of the last year.
It is not simply the ongoing immigration opportunities that make 2017 such an exciting time to study in Canada. Canadian institutions are moving from strength to strength in developing unique study programs, cutting-edge facilities, and talented faculties. Increasingly, these institutions are becoming acknowledged worldwide — Times Higher Education and QS Rankings both count 26 Canadian universities among the best in the world. These institutions are also increasingly recognizing the benefits of welcoming international students for their alternative perspectives and skillsets.
The list of reasons to study in Canada goes on. Realizing that international study in Canada is experiencing a wave of energy and change, the Campbell Cohen Team created this dedicated platform to highlight the many exciting developments in Canada’s international education scene that continue to emerge.
