The International Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate streams of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) are set to reopen to receive applications next week. Through these streams — which are two of the highest-volume streams under the OINP — eligible candidates may obtain Canadian permanent resident status. Five Canadian universities rank among the top 50 worldwide in the Times Higher Education list of most international universities for 2017. International universities are those that actively pursue international student and staff recruitment, and develop support networks for their international community.
A university’s international characteristics may also include research collaborations with foreign institutions and scholars, and partnerships with institutions and businesses overseas. Students at such universities may receive a global education, with opportunities to work or learn abroad. Career preparation at highly internationalized universities prepares students to enter a globally connected workforce.

Universities and colleges voice their support for welcoming, open society in the wake of President Trump’s executive order to suspend immigration to the United States from seven predominantly Muslim countries.
Many Canadian universities and colleges have made statements in response to the executive order, expressing concern for the immediate 90-day suspension on immigration to the US from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Universities Canada, an advocacy group for 97 Canadian universities, issued a statement on Sunday evening condemning the order. Many member universities have since issued statements supporting Universities Canada and echoing their concern. [Read more…]
